16 November 2006 - 0 Comments

As New Zealand’s leading publisher of local songwriters, Mushroom Music NZ is excited to announce three new signings.

The multi-talented James Milne grew up in Christchurch and moved to Auckland in 2002. Soon after his arrival, James joined The Brunettes, playing bass and touring the United States with the band, sending back regular first hand ‘on the road’ tour reports for the New Zealand Herald. On his return he formed his own band The Reduction Agents releasing the album entititled The Dance Reduction Agents, only to follow that up almost immediately with a solo project, going under the alias ‘Lawrence Arabia’. James Milne was a finalist for the 2006 APRA Silver Scroll, New Zealand’s most prestigious songwriting award, along with Evermore, Don McGlashan and Anika Moa for his song The Pool. He is also nominated for five bNet awards this year, including Artist of the Year, Breakthrough Artist, Best Producer, Best Vocalist, and The Reduction Agents song Urban Yard is up for Pop Track of 2006. The bNet winners will be announced on Saturday 16th December at the bNet Award Ceremony in Auckland. James recently stopped by in Tokyo to do a live in-store at Mona Records before he headed over to London where will be based for the next few months.

Currently in the studio recording their second album, Spa is made up of the combined talents of Steven Tait (vocals, guitar), Hayden Sinclair (bass) and Brian Donelley (drums). The first two singles, Neil of Diamonds and Yale from their self titled debut album released in 2004 have received considerable radio play throughout New Zealand with Neil Of Diamonds still showing up on radio play lists. Neil of Diamonds video was made by Andy Welch who has gone on to be the Official Photographer for The Who on their latest North American tour and is also filming live footage of the band for their website. The video was nominated for Indie Video of the Year at the Juice TV awards 2004 while the video for Yale was a finalist for the Best Animated Video at the Kodak Music Clip Awards 2004.

Mushroom Music NZ has also signed New Zealand's premier metal band 8 Foot Sativa. The huge success of their three albums, national tours, break-through chart positions and exposure in the mainstream media has never before been seen in NZ by a Heavy Metal band. They have supported numerous international acts such as Metallica, Pantera, Korn, Slipknot, System of a Down, Disturbed, and Motorhead, to name a few. 8 Foot Sativa are currently on a nationwide tour and is due to release the band’s 4th album ‘Poison of Ages’ recorded at Studio Underground in Sweden, in February 2007.
