The 2006 bNet NZ Music Awards were held on Saturday 16th of December in a packed out Northern Steamship Company, Downtown Auckland.
Live performances from Ladi 6 and SJD entertained not only the live audience, but the masses listening to the awards live on every bNet station right across the country: 95bFM in Auckland, The Most FM in New Plymouth, Radio Active in Wellington, Radio Control in Palmerston North, RDU in Christchurch and Radio One in Dunedin.
Amongst the big winners on the night were The Mint Chicks, scooping 5 bNet awards including Artist of the Year, Best Producer, Best Cover Design, the regional award for 95bFM Song of the Year and Best Rock Track.
Shapeshifter also took a few of the red b’s home, winning Best Live Act, Best Song and Best Album.
The end of the awards ceremony saw thousands flock to downtown Auckland for the inaugural bStreet event – a free gig put on by Auckland bNet station 95bFM. Four venues ran simultaneously with over 20 bands and DJs (including Kora, Solaa, The Mint Chicks and Connan and the Mockasins) performing for absolutely free. Downtown streets were flooded with punters as an estimated 2500 people tried to get a piece of the action.
Next year sees the 10th anniversary of the bNet NZ Music Awards, and preparations are already underway for what is set to be a huge night.
Keep an ear out.
Love,
The bNet.
