Poneke’s Dr. Reknaw reveal their latest track, the silky and seductive Look Me In The Eyes, peeling back the layers and delving into consent and sexuality, and the liquorice-smooth intoxication of desire.
"Look Me In The Eyes came from desires to see our society grow to a place where consent comes first, for us all to take-hold of, and form a relationship with our own sexual energy. We are shinning light on the sacred act of making love, and it feels great", says bassist and backing vocalist Sophie Cooper.
The track is an intimate astral-ballad, honouring the energy that made us. Here, we see Dr. Reknaw stripping it back to the bones of respect and consent: Operation Sexual Liberation. The calming groove relaxes and enlightens your very being, while the ethereal sonic waves lull into a dreamlike state that washes away yesterday’s debris.
Look Me In The Eyes is the final single to come from Dr. Reknaw, ahead of the release of their full album, Rektified, available on all digital outlets from March 26th.
Dr. Reknaw are a Poneke-based9-piece psych-dub supergroup with roots in soul and hip-hop featuring members Zane Hawkins, Luther Hunt, Sophie Cooper, Julia Cooper, Ben Stewart, Eilish Wilson, Jules Blewman and Hayden Richardson. Beginning as a duo of two sisters, the eclectic act has now grown into an "empowering groove machine", with music that celebrates connection to whenua and fellow humans.
