After wowing critics and listeners with her November single Let Me Dream A While, which followed her emotional debut Can’t in July 2020, Sabreen Islam is set to return in 2021 with her powerful summery single Summer Romance dropping Wednesday 17th February.
Sabreen Islam is an indie singer-songwriter and writer hailing from New Zealand, taking inspiration from a wide range of artists such as Hozier, Conan Gray and dodie. Through soft guitars, gentle synths and catchy melodies paired with emotive and raw lyrics, Sabreen Islam’s music has had a profound impact on audiences across New Zealand and beyond. Her debut collection of poetry Spring Clean reached #4 in Oceanian Poetry and #1 in Children’s Poetry upon its release on Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited in April 2019.She also played Auckland’s famous Others Way Festival in 2018 and has performed and worked alongside the likes of New Zealand’s very own pop sensation, Jamie McDell. Sabreen is set to perform at the upcoming GRRL FEST 2021 in Kirikiriroa — Hamilton in early March.
With more exciting releases to follow in 2021, this single tells an evocative story of Sabreen’s own imagination, of two female lovers set in the 1950's. The ballad captures the anguish and emotion of the two lovers as they take a chance on a summer romance, and how their relationship plays out in the conservative world of the 20th century. With gentle ukuleles, breathtaking vocals and sweeping strings, Sabreen tells the story of these women with grace, emotion and a poignant, story—telling clarity.
Summer Romance will be released on all music platforms on Wednesday 17th February.
