Tauranga's psych-rock trailblazer We Will Ride Fast shares the latest single from his recently released album, Emotional Molecules, the trippy psychological journey that is More Dead Than Alive, accompanied by a found footage official video splicing together terse pieces of the worst of humankind, war and destruction.
Speaking of the track, songwriter Kyle Sattler laments, "More dead than alive is a song about the ever deepening chasm between a subjective (un) reality and objective truth, where, without diplomacy be it personal or political, human kind has, historically, tread a path to destruction."
"We live in a world ruled over by the clash of self obsessive tribalistic ideologies. Any shed of truth is bent and twisted by an ever deepening chasm between a subjective unreality and objective calm.
"Factions become so entrenched in what they want to see that any information to the contrary is rejected forthwith. Groups seek and become political powers divided in and by the state, where everybody in opposition becomes the ‘other’ and hatred for no good reason is thrust out/down.
"A delusion so unkind, it’s a trick of the mind, a simulation of the eye, the hollow mask behind” - Lyrics from More Dead Than Alive
The full album, Emotional Molecules is available now on all digital platforms, and the limited edition, hand-crafted 180 gram vinyl at Flying Out both in store and online.
"Throbbing, danceable gloom-rock is not just alive and well in the hands of Kyle Sattler (The Bennies) out of Tauranga but, on this third album, pushing further into experimental guitar rock.
"With swathes of sometimes disconcerting electronics alongside Sattler's stentorian vocals declaiming the angst of the 21stcentury where many are cut adrift from the certainties and symbols of yesteryear (More Dead Than Alive), this creates an immediate impression." - Graham Reid, Elsewhere.co.nz
