New Zealand pop artist, songwriter and producer MCK has today released her new EP, Hot Sounds-
a four-track record of pop/RnB that firms up her reputation as ‘one to watch’ in 2021.
Hot Sounds contains the already released tracks Muse and Better ft
Wells*, alongside the EP’s new single Trippin’ Up, which is MCK’s personal favourite on the record. A contemplative track, Trippin’ Up showcases MCK’s flawless vocals
and heartfelt and honest lyricism, wrapped in warm and dreamy production.
All songs on the EP are co-written by MCK and rising Kiwi artist, writer and producer Josh Naley (AKA Wells*)
who also features on Better. Aside from delivering four slices of perfect pop, Hot Soundsalso captures MCK and Naley’s blossoming creative partnership and friendship.
"I was feeling pretty lost at the time these songs were made, but equally feeling very creative, so having Josh to turn to when I wanted to release something quickly was like therapy for me. There’s a lot of liberation and light-heartedness in the project,
but I was actually having a mild identity crisis underneath it all. We really opened up to each other through the process, and I think ‘Better’ was the perfect reflection of that,” says MCK, whose real name is Mckenzie Comer.
“Hot Sounds feels like a perfectly packaged memory of our collaborative journey and friendship over the last year or so,” she adds. “We both really leaned in and cared about what we were making, so I'm just grateful that he wanted to
work with me and we were able to come out the other side with a finished product that we can be proud of.”
Fresh off a stellar performance on R&V's Vodafone Vines Stage, MCK will mark the release of Hot Sounds with
a Whammy Bar celebration on the 4th March hosted by Endeavour Live and Profanity — featuring support from Wells* and Adam Snow. Tickets are on sale now here.
Although only her second EP released under her stage name MCK, Mckenzie is no stranger to music. She was discovered on YouTube in 2010 by a Nashville music executive but walked away from it all when she was just 16. Taking
the time to hone her creativity out of the spotlight, she focused on finding her feet independently. She returned in 2018 as MCK with Magnets and
Sensitive, followed by the ConfessionsEP.
