Elleio brings us into a dream-like state with Play Pretend releasing on Friday 5th of March, her second single from her debut EP The Diary of a Fruit Loop.
Play Pretend is a love letter to acting, playing a role, playing pretend. The lyrics are poetic and haunting, with inspiration from the likes of FKA Twigs and fellow Kiwi Lorde. Accompanied by a sea of harmonies, Alex Hoare on cello and Keith Aaron on piano with mixing by Alex Maggs, Play Pretend is vastly contrasting from the new artist’s pop single Upbeat released on February 5th and distributed by DRM.
Growing up between her French and Kiwi/Tongan families, Elleio was raised within widely contrasting scenery and has many stories of her past to tell within her music. With a passion for not only music, but film and visual art, Elleio places great importance on her imagery, collaborating with artist Chelsea Ostler on all artwork and photoshoots as well as self directing/editing her video work such as her cover of The Seed by Aurora which can be found on YouTube. A lover of singing, lyrics are incredibly important to Elleio and you can expect to find hidden meanings within each of her songs, carefully intertwined in her metaphors and catchy hooks.
