Due for release on 20 March, House of Cards is the seventh single from renowned Palmerston North based purveyors of Pop-Punk, The Wake Up.
The writing of House of Cards was a collaborative effort that saw each of the band's members contribute to its evolution; a process that was driven by experimentation.
One of the heavier tracks in the band's repertoire, Drummer Caleb Hickmott muses that House of Cards is "the demon lovechild of Devilskin, Billie Eilish and Motley Crue".
The single was recorded and mixed over a weekend last year, when the band took part in a recording workshop at iconic Palmerston North studio and venue The Stomach. Facilitated by sound engineer Nigel Mauchline, the sessions took attendees through the process of setting up a studio for recording instruments and vocals, and mixing the track.
To celebrate the release of House of Cards, The Wake Up are set to play a special single release show at The Dark Room in Palmerston North on Saturday 20 March, with special guests Wellington's Holloway and fellow Palmerston North musician Adam Lee.
The show is also an opportunity to formally introduce the band's new member, Trent Fairhurst, who replaces former member Chris Jordan on guitar. The band also features Laura McGaffin (vocals), Caleb Hickmott (drums) and Nathan Charles (bass).
The Wake Up are poised to return to the studio in the coming weeks to record their eagerly awaited debut EP, which will be released later in the year.
