Music News - Organised chaos hits the streets

Organised chaos hits the streets

14 February 2007 - 0 Comments

With Fringe 07 now in full swing, the streets of Wellington have come alive.

Spearheaded by this Saturday’s Chalk The Walk event, many outdoor events and artistic installations are now popping up all over the city.

“Take a look around Wellington and it’s pretty obvious that there’s a whole lotta Fringe goin’ on,” said Fringe 07 director Karen Blyth.

“Organised Chaos isn’t something that can be held in just theatres, so keep an eye out for the music, art and theatre that is hitting the streets. In true summer-style, our five picks for this week focus on the great outdoors!”

Chalk the Walk returns this year to the Wellington Waterfront, where people can transform the pavement between Te Papa and Frank Kitts Park with their own creative endeavours. Chalk is provided for this kids-favourite event.

Baby Where are the Fine Things You Promised Me is Stephen Bain’s miniature cottage, setting up in random parts of the city and featuring an eclectic mix of suburban objects, sounds and images. It runs from this Friday 16th to February 24.

The Butchershop Quartet features quite possibly the most misguided musical endeavour of the Fringe, with the Quartet injecting their untrained and out-of-tune rehashes of current and classic hits in random public and private spaces.

Lovers of Central Park continues its romantic meander through the lush surrounds of Brooklyn’s Central Park, guiding the audience through both the park and through love lives from 1855 to the future. Wear sensible shoes!

Public Announcement is a five day A0 sized comic strip, unfolding one day at a time from Monday February 19 and located at both the Wellington Railway Station and Cuba Street’s Wilson Carpark. Don’t miss your daily dose!
