The countdown to South By Southwest has begun again for an exciting crop of NZ acts making the trip to the Austin, Texas, music conference to once again put our tunes on the world stage. With many more New Zealanders invited to perform this year than in the past, and their high calibre as artists, the NZ Music Industry Commission is excited to be coordinating our country’s presence at SXSW in 2007.
'But who’s going?', you say. Well, new stamps will be turning up in the passports of Carly Binding, Blindspott, Cut Off Your Hands, Deja Voodoo, Die! Die! Die!, Dimmer, Elemeno P, Evermore, Gasoline Cowboy, Hera, The Mint Chicks, Bic Runga, and So So Modern. That’s quite a talented list of musical ambassadors, and the NZMIC will be doing our utmost to help them stand out amongst the 1400-plus artists performing from the world over.
The annual NZ Music Function will once again be taking place in Brush Square Park in central Austin, with live performances and good old Kiwi hospitality coming together in what will be typically fine fashion - and the lovely folk at Kim Crawford Wines are providing another selection of delicious NZ wine to accompany the excellent bands on display. And with all thirteen artists playing their own individual showcases as well as a few additional gigs, there’s no doubt that in just a few weeks time the ears of Austinites and international movers and shakers will be ringing from all the fine music these performers have got to offer.
