Indie-pop-surf-rock artist Bluey Green has released his second single Roses today. Produced with Merk, the song’s singer/songwriter roots has blended into an indie-pop masterpiece of groove and emotion.

The single, which was 15 years in the making, was inspired by Bluey Green’s (AKA Mitch Horton) then girlfriend, and now wife.
“I actually made up a version of this chorus around the time I met my wife at a uni hostel (although it was sung in a more screamo style). For some reason it popped back into my mind last year and I built a song around it based on how much our relationship means to me. Life can get really full on at times and sometimes you feel like there isn't much left over to give to a partner, but simply acknowledging that and trying to prioritise them as best you can is hopefully enough.”
Also out today is the Roses music video, which mirrors the song by visually showing the journey to do whatever it takes to get those roses to his wife.
“I start out buying some roses, looking relatively dressed up and a bit suavey and then begin a quest to try and get them to the love of my life but as hard as I try to get them to her things don't go my way (car won't start, bike crash etc.). It ends with me beaten up a bit and running desperately to my wife on the beach who is out of focus in the background.”

With an upcoming EP, Roses is the second single to be released, following his summer anthem debut track Morning Sunshine. Championed by Radio Hauraki, the song’s video received a stunning 110k views collectively and the tick of approval on Twitter from director Sam Neill himself.
The Morning Sunshine music video features archived footage directed by the kiwi film legend Sam Neill. However it was only after gaining the rights to use the colourful and cinematic footage did Horton realise this.
“I didn’t actually notice Sam Neill directed the original film until I had gotten permission to use the footage. I thought that was just a coincidence that the director was also called Sam Neill, but when I looked up online sure enough a young Sam Neill had directed it.”
Now based in Mount Maunganui after an adventurous life of surf and travel, including a stint in Eastern Europe as part of a rock opera, Bluey Green navigates a bridge between the worlds of pop, surf rock and dance while staying true to his authentic and honest song writing.
With a debut EP to come, there is lots to look forward to from this fresh new artist. Keep an ear out!
