Saurian (pronounced Saw-ree-uhn) are a Dunedin-based rock band consisting of Karl Brinsdon, Hamish Daniell, Sol Wyatt, and Cameron Ellis. They have recently released live EP (Brooding at the Crown) as a follow-up their debut album, Brooding (2020) on 26 February 2021.
They are now getting set to release acoustic versions of some of the songs from Brooding. The first of these songs, to be released on the 1st of May 2021, is Tyre Tracks (In The Sky) Acoustic. This track started life as a hard rock song, stylistically comparable to Queens of the Stone Age. This acoustic version has removed the loud distorted guitars, drums, and belted vocals in favour of acoustic guitar, strings, percussion, and a softer vocal.
This change in style has been a fun way to experiment with new instruments for guitarist and vocalist, Karl Brinsdon, who picked up bongos, shakers, and harmonica on this project as well as arranging the string parts. Sol Wyatt performed acoustic bass, Courtney Hickmott performed violin and Tessa Dalgety-Evans performed cello. The single was recorded in guitarist and vocalist, Karl Brinsdon’s home studio. He also mixed and mastered the track.
Tyre Tracks (In The Sky) – Acoustic will be available on Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play and other online music services from 1 May 2021, with a short acoustic EP to follow it later in the month.
