Hunter Davison releases his beautifully woven together debut EP Head Spins; a sincere culmination of experiences, thoughts and interpretations that he has had along his journey to becoming autonomous. Written in his distinctive Alternative R&B/Indie Pop style, he speaks of romance, lust, depression and finding it hard to fit in.
The opener Ecstasy was the first release form the project as this new chapter of Davison's career unfolds. The collaboration between Davison and newcomer Reid proved to be the perfect teaser for the EP to build the anticipation Davison desired. Up All Night on the other hand is a classic tale of romance. Inspired by his idol Bruno Major's songwriting prowess, this song is an affectionate ballad about those nights you spend losing track of time and talking until dawn. Comedowns nods a head towards that feeling of not fitting in. The anxiety associated with peer pressure and the troubles that we face as a generation of young adults in an ever changing landscape of obstacles to overcome. And finally to tie the whole project together we have What's New?, the final piece of the puzzle. An upbeat track written in conjunction with prolific Wellington artist Will McClean form the perspective of a friend reaching out to a companion in need.
Head Spins is a raw collection of tracks that Davison has cultivated about the dizzying experience that life is and can be. One that is hard to navigate for even the strongest of souls.
