NZ Music Month on C4!

30 April 2007 - 0 Comments

You didn't think we'd do nothing did ya? You may recall that last year for NZ Music Month, C4 had a number of significant local artists talk in beautifully shot pieces about their own musical experiences. Well, this year...we decided to do something a bit different.

And so, last week - in anticipation of New Zealand Music Month - a very special dinner was held!

C4 was lucky enough to host a table including Rosie Riggir (Charlie Ash), Dave Gibson (Elemeno P), Carly Binding, Brooke Fraser, Dave Dobbyn, Andrew Fagan and Jason Kerrison (Op Shop) who sat down to discuss the ins and outs of New Zealand Music. Our guests ranged in experiences - from breaking artists trying to establish themselves in New Zealand, through to those now attempting to enter international markets after success at home and those with years of experience as professional full time musicians.

With each experience, comes a different viewpoint and perspective on New Zealand music - the sound, the future, the past...and its place within changes in the global music environment.

As Rosie Riggir quite eloquently put during the dinner... "nothing can beat seeing an artist live - like nothing can beat spending time with people - face to face, breaking bread with them..."

...and break bread our guests did (..and chocolate truffles..)

Over the course of a few hours, insightful conversations were held about a range of topics including the month of May, downloading, breaking the big time, making music that means something, NZ bands that should have been bigger, the hit factor and even....'the accent thing'.

From the dinner, a series of unique and revealing idents have been cut showing our dinner guests discussing key issues - note use of the word 'discussing', not agreeing on...(Jason Kerrison to Dave Gibson after dinner "that was great. You and I came to blows quite a few times!")

Conversation and debate continued after the cameras stopped rolling, demonstrating the strength of opinion our guests (and crew) have.

All will be revealed...this NZ Music Month on C4...along with brand new videos expected this month from The Electric Confectionaires, Brooke Fraser, The Checks, Autozamm, Connan & The Mockasins, Tyree, Motocade and more...
