True Nature is a culmination of tracks written over several years drawing influence from Alpha & Omega, Massive Attack, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Pink Floyd and Bob Marley. Written and produced by Werner, mixed by Werner and Lucius Borich (Cog) and mastered by Stuart Hawkes (Metropolis, UK),the album was mostly recorded in the US and completed in Australia and New Zealand during the lockdown period of 2020.
The album takes the listener through an evolution of deep dub frequencies and grooves inspired by reggae, with Werner’s vocals, at times ethereal, weaving through the tracks as social commentary. Wunderland’s bass is the deep meditative pulse, gluing the tracks together.
Among the tracks on True Nature it contains the already released dubby, Time, Rootsman and In My Soul which establishes the contrast of the album with its bass-heavy groove locked into an electronic beat that pushes its way toward a Pink Floyd-inspired crescendo.
The album also already has a remix of the track One To Ten by New Zealand producer/artist, Paddy Free of Pitch Black (Salmonella Dub – Inside The Dub Plates) and also features as a dub version on the producers own album Paddy Free In Dub II released April 2, 2021.
Carla Werner has forged a long and fruitful career as an internationally acclaimed multi-genre composer, vocalist, producer and performer, pioneering her own sound through hard work, on her own terms in an ever-changing industry.
Following a string of successful releases overseas, Carla collaborated with UK DJ ,Paul Oakenfold on the trance song iconic Southern Sun, which reached number one on the dance charts in UK and Europe. Southern Sun has gone on to become one of the biggest trance tracks of all time with DJ Tiesto’s Remix garnering 4.7 million streams on Spotify and 2.5 million views on YouTube.
Her love of live performance runs parallel to that of writing, and Carla has toured/performed extensively at music festivals throughout Australia and the US including Festival of the Sun, Glenworth Valley, Cockatoo Island, The Great Escape and Reggae on the Mountain with some standout personal performances and tours that include Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin), Leonard Cohen, America, The Pretenders, Damien Rice, Toots & The Maytals and the Jayhawks to name a few.
