In the emotive track, Saski - AKA Mikhail Birch - explores past feelings and future life direction, after returning to the “pretty little island” of Aotearoa, which Saski calls home, following time living overseas.
“I started the song in San Francisco as I tried to process the change I was taking on, and finished it back in my childhood bedroom as I started to allow myself to truly feel the shift. Pretty Little Island is about feelings of nostalgia mixed with being propelled forward by life; it’s about the place I call home, and the people I left behind.”
Produced by Joseph Corban-Banks, Josh Edmonds and Liam Quinn, the ambient track hints at what’s to come, being the first single to be released off the upcoming EP which will expand into even bolder, richer soundscapes.
“The EP is a storyline to the changes life brought when I moved back to NZ; the experiences of being faced with a past life, while starting a new one right back where I left off. This single marks the start of the journey I was on when I first moved home”.
After travelling the globe and primarily being based in the US, Saski has had an impressive string of releases. With her first single Faking Bright now at over 9 million plays on Spotify alone, her follow up singles Independent and Set Fire also sit at over 1 millions plays each.
With a debut EP of rich soundscapes and more dreamy vibes to come, keep an ear out for this bold kiwi artist. There’s lots of exciting things in store!
