From the release of his 2017 EP The Grapefruit Skies, the world soon learned the name Te Karehana Gardiner-Toi, known more widely as TEEKS. With a songbook about love and loss, the now widely-celebrated Maori artist was awarded ‘Best Maori artist’ at the 2017 New Zealand Music Awards, along with nominations for the Taite Music Prize and Silver Scroll songwriting award.
In 2021, following a sold-out underplay tour, TEEKS slowly revealed his long-awaited debut album Something To Feel. The critically acclaimed album arrived at #1 on the NZ Album Chart with a groundswell of love from his fans at home and abroad. Following the release of Something To Feel, TEEKS embarked on his largest headliner tour yet, performing to sold-out audiences around New Zealand including a ground-breaking show at the iconic Civic Theatre.
Covered by both British and US Vogue, TEEKS is an artist with both a connection to his homeland and the world through an artistic vulnerability and a rare sense of humility that is hard to find.
