Play great music? Want to be a star? Got no money? No worries.
Twenty-thousand dollars of free radio advertising is set to be given away to emerging musicians by Wellington's Radio Active 89FM.
The initiative, called '$20k: FCKN@!', is part of Radio Active 89FM's 30th birthday celebrations. Emerging musicians, DJs and promoters that will be performing or releasing an album in Wellington during August 2007 are eligible.
Station manager Dave Gibbons said the initiative was aimed at entertainers at the very beginning of their careers, providing substantial advertising packages for free to help set them on a path to creative greatness.
"We're celebrating thirty years of jammin' at Radio Active 89FM in 2007 and we know how hard it is for entertainers to take that first crucial step in releasing their album or putting on a show," said Mr Gibbons.
"This initiative is about giving back to the grassroots that we've been supporting for 30 years. The likes of Shihad, Fur Patrol, The Phoenix Foundation and The Black Seeds have emerged with our support, so if you want to crack the capital then this is a chance to do it for free."
"The spirit of this initiative is to give a boost to the people just tarting out. We don't want to let great ideas die just because someone can't afford to advertise," said Mr Gibbons.
The packages up for grabs are:
1 x Radio Active 89FM Presents package plus live to air and press release, worth $4320
2 x Radio Active 89FM In Association With, each worth $2840
5 x The Fred Dagg Deal, each worth $2000
To be eligible for the free advertising giveaways, Radio Active 89FM is looking for bands, promoters and DJs that are not signed to a record label and haven't had an advertising spend with Radio Active before.
It is open to anyone in New Zealand, as long as they are performing or releasing an album during August. Applications are open from today and close on July 16.
