“What if I never get to see the sunrise again?”
A question that only became more of a desperate mantra that pleaded for hope as Seas Of Conflict navigated a turbulent year - much like the rest of the world.
At the beginning of 2021, with just vocalist Kody Naidoo and drummer/songwriter Nic Martin remaining, the heavy Kiwi entity was left with an imperative decision: Adapt or Perish.
Thus, the duo emerge with XII.IX: a “turning of the page” in the form of an emotionally heavy track charged with a raw story that sees the band journeying into a new realm of epic proportions.
“XII.IX was written about a particular moment in my life where I had experienced the loss of someone who was once very important to me,” says Kody. “I had written these lyrics as a way of expressing how I had been feeling about the situation, and my state of mind years on from that time.
Reliving that moment with each word I put to paper, I tried to capture as much of this emotion as I could. What was probably only a fleeting few minutes, felt like an entire life-time; it’s about grieving the loss of your world - feeling as though you are standing still in time - while life continues to move forward around you, bustling, unhindered.
At some point in our lives, I feel we have all experienced a moment where we ask ourselves “What if?”; wondering how different life would be if you took that leap you wanted to take, but felt as if your feet were cemented in the ground by self-doubt and fear of the unknown.
This was my “What if?” moment, this is a piece of me.
XII.IX is my story.”
