Music News - Halberg Trust Napier Dinner to Honour both Sporting and Musical Excellence

There will be a touch of musical magic at the Westpac Halberg Celebrity Sporting dinner in Napier next month – courtesy of original Split Enz bassist Mike Chunn and local artist Flan Flaws.
Chunn and Flaws will be joining guest speaker and Sydney Olympic gold medal rowing champion Rob Waddell at the War Memorial Hall dinner in Napier on Saturday September 8.
Flaws will join 14 students from Taradale High School in the performance of his iconic NZ song "Tears". While rising star Anna MacDonald, who won the 2006 NZ Secondary School’s Songwriting Competition, will be singing her award winning number "Blue Butterfly" with Chunn on guitar.
Chunn, who now runs the charitable organisation Play it Strange which sets up programmes around the country to encourage and support emerging musical talent such as Anna MacDonald, says “both Play it Strange and the Halberg Trust share a common goal – they both celebrate talented individuals who strive to succeed.“
Halberg Trust Chief Executive Graeme Taylor says “It’s great to be able to share these kiwi musical talents with an outstanding sports achiever in Rob Waddell. It is shaping up to be a spectacular night of celebrating New Zealand’s musical and sporting success.”
