WOMAD 2022 Announces Second Line-up

26 November 2021 - 0 Comments

Today, WOMAD NZ adds nine musical performers to the 2022 line-up. From household names and festival favourites to keeping the delight of WOMAD’s discovery element alive, these nine new acts solidify the 2022 WOMAD lineup as the most diverse and worldly rich festival of the summer season.

The acts added are: Dream Chambers; APRA award-winning singer-songwriter Jess Chambers' ethereal electronic music, Ge Luz; Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland-based Brazilian musician who composes in a range of different styles, including samba and bossa nova, Le Moana; performing Pacific Contemporary Dance and storytelling, Muroki; of Kenyan descent, Coromandel born, and residing in Raglan since childhood, Muroki has always lived near the waves — a defining backdrop to this 20-year-old’s sound of smooth roots-based pop. Mazbou Q; the Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland based, UK-born Nigerian artist's particular brand of Hip-hop challenges the very notion of genre and captivates those with a deep appreciation for musicality. Paul Bosauder presents the Tierra y Mar Flamenco Project; known for performing around the world as a highly regarded flamenco guitarist and composer, Rubi Du; known as “Aotearoa’s Reggae Queen’, TUi MAMAKi; formerly of Mamaku Project, Tui finds inspiration for new works in Bulgarian Folklore. Whirimako Black; from the Tūhoe Nation, blends genres of folk, jazz and blues incorporating English and in te reo Māori.

The much loved WOMAD Poetry Slam returns for 2022 showcasing performance poets, amateur and professional, putting them in the spotlight on the World of Words Stage. Professional Poet and Hostess with the mostess, Penny Ashton, is back with more aural excitement and to whip the crowd into a frenzy over the crowning of the winner alongside judges; Ken Arkind, and Te Karere Whitiao Scarborough. Entries have now opened for budding Womad wordsmith festival go-ers to put themselves in the running: Entries are open HERE for the WOMAD Poetry Slam 2022.
