Arjuna Oakes”
Gilles Peterson (BBC Radio 6 Music)
Arjuna Oakes is a singer-songwriter and producer based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Aotearoa (Wellington, New Zealand). Following the release of his debut EP The Watcher in 2019, Arjuna has released another two projects both to widespread acclaim, 2020’s Recovery Pt.1 and 2021’s First Nights. The latter is a collaboration with longtime friend and co-producer Serebii, released by LA-based record label Innovative Leisure (Badbadnotgood, Bambii). First Nights debuted at #5 on KCRW’s Top 30 Albums chart, and has had extensive play on BBC6 and BBC1xtra.
“Soulful and sophisticated”
Under the Radar NZ
With an act comprising some of New Zealand’s most exciting young jazz musicians, Arjuna and his band have been exciting live audiences the last couple of years with a string of sold out shows, appearances at some of NZ’s top music festivals and recently featured as one of Assembly Festival’s digital programme in this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Arjuna was a recipient of the inaugural New Zealand Arts Foundation Springboard Award (2020) and received a year’s mentoring from renowned NZ composer John Psathas.
Born out of the thriving music scene in Te Aro, Wellington, Hummucide is a four-piece minimalist-rock-jazz group. FromBadBadNotGood to Aphex Twin to Yussef Kamaal, their influences come from far and wide. Their goal is to get you dancing and feeling something special. While being rooted in the jazz tradition, their music also draws influence from hip-hop, electronic, and indie artists. With a huge emphasis on interaction and improvisation, they are known for their huge live sound incorporating raging synths and soaring saxophone melodies.

Feature - NewTracks New Artist
Len Blake is a twenty year old Wellington-based artist. She released her first single My Own in May of 2020 and released her debut EP Honey Blood in September. She was born and raised in a musical family in Dunedin, New Zealand and started making music from a young age - singing, playing guitar and piano.
The Len Blake world celebrates the intensity of youth. She sings of the emotions that come with growing up - the heartbreak, friendship and the crazy joy. It’s music to dance to or music to cry to (or music to fall in love to). Len Blake is sweaty, sticky summer nights, lipstick on a wineglass, mascara tears, sun on tanned skin. She makes music that draws you in with the intimacy of her voice, that feels like dancing the night away or doing nothing at all with the people you love.
