Music News - Brian Baker Releases New Single 'Everywhere You Go'

Prolific New Zealand singer-songwriter Brian Baker, today officially celebrates the New Zealand release of his latest single, Everywhere You Go.
With its catchy hook, Everywhere You Go is a wonderfully laid-back and thoughtfully sincere track, driven by a swinging bass-line, melodic rock-blues guitaring and Bakers soothing vocal. Since its mid-November release in Australia, the song has garnered over 32,000 streams on Spotify, and continues to rise daily.
Borne out of COVID times, Everywhere You Go deals with feelings of separation – that while we are unable to hold our loved ones, or be in their physical presence, we can still hold them in our hearts and minds.
Having relocated to New Zealand from Australia, Baker emerged from quarantine on the auspicious date of 1st January 2021, to settle into an off-the-grid permaculture farm north of Auckland, where he immediately started setting up a new studio recording space. It was while doing these earthy, hands-on and structural tasks that Baker dreamt up the harmonious, gentle and heart-felt tune.
“I left family in Melbourne to set up back home, here in New Zealand,” explains Brian. “After 40+ years of living in Australia, it was a big decision to uproot and resettle, but it felt like the time was right. This song is simply an expression of the accompanying emotions, and I’m thinking that pretty much everyone can relate to those in some way or another.”
Baker’s musical history outside of Australian bands, notably includes many collaborations with Eddie Rayner (Split Enz) over the years, and they have continued to work together on various projects since.
Says Eddie, “Brian and I have been collaborating since the early 1980's, when I produced a song for his band The Ones. He writes infuriatingly-hooky melodies, music beds that swing like hammocks, and lyrics that would soften the hardest heart. This is why I hate him.”
Baker is not only a prolific creative with his own music, he is also in demand for his musical experience and production skills, and is currently producing several local artists at his studio The Bakery.
Plans are underway for a new video to be made by Baker’s network of film professional neighbours on his farm in the beautiful surrounds of Kaipara, and will be released in the new year. Meanwhile, Brian has turned his crafty art skills to creating a simple lyric video with an organic vibe, totally suitable for the song and from where it is – straight from the heart.
