Tāmaki Makaurau-based femme-pop/rock act Valkyrie are proud to unleash their sassy new single and video, Yadda Ya, with support from New Zealand on Air. The pop-rock/pop-rap single screams big chick energy, and the colourful video directed by Shae Sterling doubles down on the band's sense of fun, fierceness, and their carefree attitude.
Speaking of the process behind the track, guitarist Rebel Reid says, "Yadda Ya started on a 5-string guitar. It was a late night mate challenge to make a pop song with a missing string, and it bloody became exactly that. At first the song was originally called '007' because it sounded like a female James Bond type of song... we kept that initial feeling of having a 'license to kill', hence Yadda Ya".
Valkyrie, Scandinavian for 'powerful female figures', are a female Māori/European act formed in Auckland, New Zealand, featuring powerhouse lead vocalist Omer Gilroy (Nga Puhi, Ngai Tahu), and electrifying guitarist Rebel Reid (Nga Puhi). Their debut EP went straight to the top of the NZ Heatseekers chart, with the band going from strength to strength in their multiple appearances at Splore, opening for New Zealand's biggest band Six60, with more exciting things to come from this indomitable twosome in the very near future.
