Announcing the winners of the 2021 Student Radio Network Awards

On Saturday evening the Student Radio Network (95bFM, Radio Control 99.4FM, Radio Active 88.6FM, RDU 98.5FM, and Radio One 91FM) celebrated their own with the inaugural Student Radio Network Awards. With funding from NZ On Air, the network honored the musicians, broadcasters and volunteers who breathe life into these stations.

Hosted by 95bFM's Rachel Ashby and Zoë Larsen-Cumming, the awards were live streamed and simulcast on all partnered stations. The awards featured guest appearances from comedians
Chris Parker and Janaye Henry, videographers Sports Team, Hamburger Haz and Pitmaster Pete, Chabs & Milky, and Electric Mayhem Magazine.

Highlights of the evening included Tāmaki Makaurau's Milk aka Reuben Samuel Winter's (Waitaha / Kāi Tahu / Te Aupōuri / Te Rarawa / Ngāti Kuri) posthumous Flying Nun album
III being recognised with four awards (95bFM's Favourite Song, Favourite Album, People's Choice and #1 on the 2021 SRN Top Ten), with acceptance speeches from his mother Iona Winter.

Ōtepoti duo Night Lunch were the other big winners, taking home the Favourite Single award, and Radio One's Favourite Song award for their track
House Full Of Shit.

The six national awards were chosen by the Programme Directors from each Student Radio Network station. This included: Jess Fu (95bFM), Fi Carr (Radio Control), Harri Robinson (Radio Active), Jamie Stratton (RDU) and Dave Borrie (Radio One). The winners are:

Girls Rock / To The Front - Outstanding Achievement Award brought to you by New Zealand Music Commission

Throughout November the audience of the Student Radio Network voted and Milk convincing won the People's Choice Award (sponsored by Parrotdog).

The Station Manager from each location (95bFM, Radio Control, Radio Active, RDU, and Radio One 91FM) was tasked to choose the winner of the Outstanding Contribution Award, with the intention of highlights someone who had gone above and beyond for the station in the last year. They chose:

Another high point of the evening was the 2021 SRN Top 10 (sponsored by AudioCulture). The Student Radio Network compiled their weekly Top 10 lists from throughout 2021, creating into a master list that documents the favourite songs from the last 12 months.
