Human Susan is an alien trying to assimilate herself into the world, navigating the absurdity and mundanity of human embodiment. A crunchy and sparkly cosmic soup, a group of five Ōtepoti beings who want to make noise and songs.
Their unique sound is a mix of the back-and-forth alternately angry and silly electric chemistry of vocalists Caitlin Lester and Ruth Crowe, who twist lyrical artistry with dark synth drones and glittery keyboard jingles. The groovy-yet-doomy basslines of Perry Goldsmith and drummer Jenny Duncan's driving beats power Human Susan's hypnotic and occasionally haunting moments, and guitarist Connie Benson has all the space she needs to shred people's minds and ears with influences in garage and rock & roll.
Fun is Fun is their debut EP, the culmination of two years of stunning live performances across Te Waipounamu. A dark yet playful collection of tracks combining unconventional rhythm and melody into a sound that it is impossible not to move your body to. An exploration of human engagement and enragement, of existing in a body that's made out of meat.
Recorded at Spaceland Studios by Danny Brady and Nick Graham, and mastered by Tom Bell.
