Music News - A Very Fringe picnic

A Very Fringe picnic

13 February 2008 - 0 Comments

Wellington's Civic Square comes alive this weekend with The Fringe Festival's own unique brand of picnic – The Fricnic, and it's best buddy, Chalk the Walk – helped by our best buddies, Capital E and Creature Design.

The Fricnic and Chalk the Walk are two events that are part of the Free Fringe programme, set for this Saturday, February 16 from 11am till 3pm at Civic Square.

Chalk the Walk, presented by Creature, is a perennial Fringe favourite, teasing out the creative minds of young and old to transform the pavement into a canvas of creativity. We provide the chalk, and you provide the imagination.

This year, Wellington chalk artist extraordinaire Gary Humffreys will be constructing a cornucopia of creative wonder from the pavement, and sticking around the lend a hand to budding street artists.

And while all this is going on, The Fricnic is on hand for an afternoon of fun and frivolity. Music, face-painting, rides for kids, as well as the Capital E Soundhouse Students on the main stage.

TVNZ Good Morning's Fifi Colston will be on hand to take the little ones on a creative journey, constructing arts and crafts from throw-away items. This weekend she plans something special: a spectacular flowering sculpture, which will remain at Capital E until well after the sun sets on Fringe 08.

Musicians lined up for the event include NZ Idol's Rosita Vai, hip-hop dance troupe The Legacy Dance Crew, UK folk duo Katus, the hilariously talented Tap That dancers and Soundhouse Student singing sensation Greer Samuel.

This Saturday sees action on the Wellington waterfront never seen before, with other major festivals and celebrations adjacent to the Fricnic in Civic Square. Get amongst the action!
