Fin Rah Zel Deliver Smooth New Single 'Negativity, No More'

21 April 2022 - 0 Comments

Following on from the New Year release of their impressive soul-infused track Power, Taranaki independent four-piece band Fin Rah Zel continue to impress with latest single Negativity, No More.

One of the new wave of up and coming young local bands currently carving their own niche in the local musical soundscape, Fin Rah Zel are gaining traction as new tune Negativity, No More continues to climb on Spotify and Apple editorial playlists Island Time, The Local List Aotearoa, and New Music Daily.

Channelling elements of R&B soul and melodies from singer-songwriters such as Matt Corby and Allen Stone, Fin Rah Zel also find inspiration in the likes of ever-popular local favourites L.A.B, and bands like indie garage-rock outfit Mako Road.

Their new single Negativity, No More was co-produced by regular collaborator William Henderson, almost a fifth member of the band such is his skill at knowing how to add that special sauce to a Fin Rah Zel soul-pop mix.

The indie alternative soul band are known for delivering uplifting, feel-good melodies, and Fin Rah Zel truly see music as a peaceful, healing power that can inspire people to pursue what it is that they really want to do in life. It’s something they feel passionate about.

Band founder Brian Norton wrote Negativity, No More as a response to the vibe of conversations around him, recognising what he’s felt himself before, and how it has held him back in the past.

“I’m always hearing people say, ‘I wish I could do this’ or ‘I wish I could do that’. It’s like, well why aren’t you doing it? ‘Oh, cos so-and-so just doesn’t want to do that’, or ‘it’s uncomfortable for me’ – so you’re constantly telling yourself not to do things. It’s so evident for many people, and I’ve done it myself,” he says.

“The melody and chord structure came first. “Then I wrote this story - you can hear it in the lyrics – based on a relationship, an unbalanced partnership where you want to do something, but the other person is holding you back or feeding you with negativity. Maybe you’ve got a dream, but that person is subconsciously holding you back.”

He adds, “the song is urging you to say you’re no longer going to stand for that. You are going to break away from that negative voice, whether it’s your own voice or someone else’s.”

Thoughtful and inspiring lyrics combined with a gentle heartfelt groove to soothe the soul and uplift the spirit are what Fin Rah Zel are all about. Listen out for more new music to come from these young musicians in the upcoming months. Meanwhile the guys can’t wait to share the love, add to their ever-growing fan base, and perform to a live audience once again.
