Today marks the start of Te Marama Puoro O Aotearoa 2022 (NZ Music Month), encouraging Aotearoa to ‘Level Up’. This year’s theme is about bringing into focus tomorrow’s stars, showcasing up-and-coming talent and success stories, and celebrating what emerging success means for the New Zealand artists.
Rodney Fisher, NZ Music Commission, says 2022’s ‘Level Up’ theme is about “building community, upskilling and on a larger scale, seeing more acts cross-over and become local heroes, a part of our cultural fabric and identity.”
For artists keen to get involved, Rodney Fisher says it could be as simple as sharing a social media post profiling their favourite up-and-coming artist, right through to collaborating with an artist to create a new track, or cover, to give profile to an up-and-coming talent. From an industry perspective, it’s about shining a light even brighter on our local talent and doing your part to work closer with artists to reach a wider audience.
A very special Te Marama Puoro O Aotearoa 2022 themed edition of TimeOut will land in tomorrow’s New Zealand Herald, featuring a feast of local talent.
A huge range of celebrations, new releases, artist tours, initiatives and special events will be rolling out nationwide during Te Marama Puoro O Aotearoa 2022 . Each week, we’ll be sending an e-newsletter with an overview of what’s planned. If you’d like to share news to include, drop a note to the publicity team at 818.
Te Marama Puoro O Aotearoa is run by the NZ Music Commission, with support from APRA AMCOS, Independent Music NZ, the Music Managers Forum, NZ On Air, Recorded Music NZ, SOUNZ and Te Māngai Pāho. The purpose of Te Marama Puoro O Aotearoa is to celebrate music from New Zealand, and the people who make it.
