Wellington’s Wallace announces the release of another effortlessly cool single Arcade Queen to celebrate her highly-anticipated debut album And Other Colours being released on a limited vinyl run this August 10.
Arcade Queen is a nostalgia-soaked, uplifting nod to young love or as Wallace aptly describes it: “11-year-old me at Time Zone in Wellington, drinking vanilla Coke, playing dance revolution and checking out boys in their head-to-toe Planet 8 ensembles.”
“I tried to go back in time and access the intensity of the feelings your first crush gives you. I wanted it to feel playful, sweet and have a naive sense of infatuation about it,” she says.
“I think young love is so important, all consuming and happens at such a confusing time in a person’s life. Lots of adults find it amusing or are patronising about it and I think we could all do with a bit more of it.”
Arcade Queen follows a string of killer tunes from Wallace’s upcoming album. With Orchid Care, Every Stroke and Venus, The Birth Of receiving support across the globe from BBC1 Radio, RadioActive, HitFM, FBi Sydney and Amazing Radio to name-drop a few.
And Other Colours marks a significant milestone for the talented Wellington singer and songwriter, whose music has been described as a vibrant mosaic of soul, hip-hop and pop, her trademark jazz-influenced vocals and magnetic presence demonstrating her evolution as a songwriter to watch.
Celebrated for her electric live show, Wallace has previously toured alongside the likes of Rag ‘N’Bone Man, Morcheeba, Little Simz, Jordan Rakei, Electric Wire Hustle, Kllo, Winston Surfshirt, Ngaiire and The Kite String Tangle.
Wallace will showcase why she is a live performer to keep an eye on, with a one-off show in Wellington on Saturday May 21 at Rogue and Vagabond. Featuring special guests, this show is to celebrate the release of Arcade Queen and tickets are on sale now - HERE
