Tāmaki Makaurau’s Silas Futura returns with a double EP series, Rā/Pō.
An eclectic arrangement revealing the duality of human nature, both EP’s celebrate that polarity with the soulful swinging hip-hop beats of Rā contrasting with the introspective, electronic alt-synth world of Pō.
For these releases, Silas took the approach of letting go of the “perfect recording”, and this stripped back theme runs throughout Rā, and taken to a new level on Pō. For most of these songs he used his laptop microphone, choosing to use his voice as more of an instrument.
An exploration of opposite and contrary forces, Rā and Pō exemplify the yin and yang in Silas’ life, that they can and do exist in harmony, and that they are actually complementary and interconnected.

Rā sees Silas reaching deep into the feeling that nothing is stable and that who we are as individuals is always changing – a fluid, ever-evolving process of personal growth and development.
Silas showed that heavy emotions can live within a technicolour major-scale world with the release of Rā’s catchy single Coastin’, a harmony of melancholic and raw lyricism over a fun, uplifting beat.
With Pō, Silas delves into the flip-side and just vibes out, reaching deep into his emotions to allow a natural connection with the music.
“Although it’s heavily autotuned and as digital as it comes, I completely identify and connect with the music on Pō. It really feels like the closest to pure emotion that I’ve come, even though I’m not saying much. R U Lyin’ has like, ten words max in it, and yet I feel like I say more in that track than most.”
Says Silas, “Completing the saga with the Pō EP, it’s kinda like the angsty teen sibling to the Rā EP. I’m so proud of this music. It’s been sitting in my notes for over 3 years and now it’s out there. I’m very excited to finish this little chapter.”
