Prolific Kiwi-Korean rapper and producer Hans., unveils his latest video for TT, a forthright, straight-up rap track off his mould-breaking genius 7-track EP Kimyuntak.
The second in a trilogy of videos made for Kimyuntak, TT reveals another, more resolute side to Hans., as this video comes hot on the heels of his playfully infectious first single Be Grateful, with its fun and cheeky foot-fetish video.
TT takes a totally different visual tack, with a stripped-back, simplistic and unadorned take featuring Hans. and EP producer Owen Rivers. Says Hans., “I love the video because there’s no real frills to it, it’s just a lot of one take shots and me rapping.”
A blunt, harder-hitting song for Hans., TT provided an opportunity to break out of his comfort zone, as he explains, “I rarely rap on trap beats, but it’s something I always wanted to do, a song that was just rapping with no chorus. It’s probably the most I’ll rap ever.”
A deliberate move designed to bring out the rawness of the song, the video is proudly super DIY, one take, and low maintenance, a look inspired by the 2012 – 2015 era of hip-hop videos that Hans. grew up with, from artists like Young Thug, Mac Miller, Dumbfoundead and Chief Keef.
Shot by Luke Park in Piha during a song-writing camp in-between recording sessions, Hans. says, “Well, we ran out of drinks on the first night in Piha, so we shot the video while having nothing much else to do”, all of which no doubt, inadvertently added to the overall austere and stark vibe of the shoot.
