Following the release of Someone, Anyone in December of 2021, Jake Love returns with Better today, exploring the what if of a relationship that didn’t work out.
Produced and co-written with Matthew Young, Harry Charles and Sophie Bialostocki (Lévyne), Better showcases the quirky yet thoughtful style of songwriting that we have come to recognise in Jake’s new wave of music along with a nostalgic sonic landscape of jangly guitars and vibrant vocal layers found in Sheryl Crow and Parachutes-era Coldplay. Seeing continued support from NZ on Air, the indie-pop artist is successfully carving out his own lane and is rejecting any one genre to identify himself with.
On the inspiration behind the track, Jake says “It comes from a turning point in my relationship where, had we not taken the time to talk it through and figure it out, I could have lost my soulmate. It’s an imagined scenario in which things didn’t pan out and I end up living in that nostalgia and regret, knowing things could have been better.”
With a music video to come in July followed by an EP in the summer of 2022/23, we’re excited to see a lot more of Jake Love this year.
