Ekko Park - New Zealand Rockers Drop New Track, 'Darling, Baby'

08 July 2022 - 0 Comments

Following on from the fury of Breakdown and the pop sensibilities of Violent Silent, one of New Zealand’s finest rock exports, Ekko Park, have ramped up the attitude with Darling, Baby.

In an world known for blatant mistreament by those who hold the power, Darling, Baby fires back with one simple message. Be Better.

Frontman Joe Walsh explains, Darling, Baby. "This one grew from a series of fiery conversations between Joe, Alex & Nick during our 2021 Winter Tour. There was a lot of controversy swirling around some very high ranking, well known figures in the industry here. Big guns seemingly as adept at sweeping assault and harassment under their prized carpets & shiny awards...as they were at being outlandishly & unashamedly prophetic about it on social media posts. It was just so maddening. So we wrote down our feelings. As a male. As a female. As a band. As friends. We saw through the smokescreens, so we broke them down & wrote them down. Through our music we knew we could speak up and have our say. We could scream it out loud.

These themes and these lyrics inspired the incredible cover artwork created for us by renowned NZ tattooer James Dean. This was us not 'not' saying anything.... Punk is Alive. "I'm not anything like you. I'm not your darling...baby!!"

Ekko Park are having a huge run on the New Zealand singles charts of late staying. Thanks to fantastic radio support nationwide!

Breakdown entered at 21 on May 1 where it stayed in the Top 20 for 3 weeks. Violent Silent has been in the Top 20 since its’s release. That’s 9 straight weeks!! The pattern looks to continue with Darling, Baby!

It’s been quite a ride since Ekko Park released their last full length album, Horizon, in August of 2020. The album featured the ridiculously catchy, up tempo Uh Oh and smash single All Eyes On Me which featured guest vocalist Grant Nicholas of Welsh indie rock giants Feeder and received radio play the world over!
