Luke Thompson Announces 'To Be Warm In This Great Winter' Aotearoa Tour

15 July 2022 - 0 Comments

Luke Thompson didn’t mean to take five years to finish 2021’s The Trials & Tribulations of Adam & His Seed, the follow-up to 2016’s Tui-nominated Hosts. The concept for the album had been percolating for a while, an unformed sense; a “spirit, a hunch, a colour”. A return to folk music at its most elemental definition; songs as cultural stories, spanning generations like family heirlooms, that in the end had been set free right on time.

After the long-awaited release, came another test of patience to be able to take the expansive, philosophical album on the road and explore it in a live setting. Now, thanks to the support of the New Zealand Music Commission’s Aotearoa Touring Programme, and the perfect winter setting, that wait is finally over.

The To Be Warm In This Great Winter Tour spans eleven dates across Aotearoa this August and September, and will be audience’s first chance to hear some new songs from The Trials & Tribulations of Adam & His Seed played live in what promises to be a warm and intimate night of music and connection, with supporting acts to be announced.

After an almost three-year hiatus from touring in New Zealand, Thompson explains his excitement and curiosity to return to the road, “I am really hopeful and expectant about returning to these spaces, both what it will be for performers and what it will be for an audience. I have a feeling we will all be more present and aware of the magic of gathering. This has always been my favourite part of playing music to a group of humans.”

Wrapping up the tour in Auckland, the September 16th show will be a special event for both punters and the acclaimed artist. Performing tracks from the new album, as well as favourites from his catalogue, Thompson will be inviting fans to witness two live recording sessions at Parachute Studios for his first live album. With limited spaces available at each session, fans’ will need to get in quick to purchase tickets to this unique experience.

Ready to hit the road and connect with audiences once again, Thompson is excited to see what the tour becomes, “I don’t have much of an appetite to do the same old thing. I hope you can come out this winter and we can see what happens as we gather around the modern day camp fire and stare at the flames together.”
