Aotearoa’s Ant Utama releases 'Biding My Time'

11 November 2022 - 0 Comments

“‘Biding My Time’ was written in a bit of a dark time for me,”We all go through challenging times, where we’re repeatedly rejected, people doubt us, and ultimately we start doubting ourselves.”

Ant Utama is a pop artist and songwriter hailing from Aotearoa, who is currently based in Cologne. After a hugely successful debut EP generating nearly 300k streams, and a viral collaboration with My Parade on the single Traveller clocking 1.8m streams, Ant continues his momentum backed by NZ On Air with his brand new single Biding My Time, released on November 11th. The single release will be followed with an official video due for release a week later, on Friday 18th November.

The Video Clip, was Directed by Chris Bucanac, and shot in an abandoned building in Berlin, the music video is a cyber-punkish abstract interpretation of the song, representing the ongoing grind one faces in the pursuit of their endeavours.

“I wrote this song to motivate myself and others in the same situation to keep striving for their dreams, despite the challenges and the haters, with the knowledge that one day, you’re going to prove your doubters wrong”.

Born and raised in Howick, and working the 9-5 grind in the corporate sector, Ant, over it decided to pack up and head to Germany for a soul searching adventure. The move proved to be the perfect excuse to pursue his real dream of making music, and it’s paid off!

He started off busking on the streets of Cologne for a living, which he describes as a challenging but rewarding experience. “I’ve learnt so much more about myself, life and people than any other job”.He built himself up, despite the setback of the pandemic over the last couple years and is stoked to be living full time as an artist, spreading his music, his stories and representing himself as a proud Kiwi on stages all over Europe.

Alongside his huge love for making music and the relief and joy it brings others, he’s also a musician on a mission. Hoping to inspire like minded aspirational people through his music – to give them the soundtrack to persevere and hustle towards their dreams.

“We all go through those rough patches, but rather than suffering through them thinking there’s no end, keep grinding through knowing that the ups and downs in life are cyclical. When you know that, no one can take your self-belief”

Inspired himself, to use his music to give a little back, he’s partnered with some pretty worthy & vital organisations over recent years. In 2019 he worked with Lifeline NZ alongside the release of I Got Your Back, donating 100% of the proceeds to the charity. In 2021, inspired by his time busking on the streets, he hoped to give a little more voice to the homeless, releasing his song ‘Excuse Me’, putting on a charity concert,  and collecting donations for completing a 72 hour challenge to live and sleep on the street for 3 nights in winter.

Hoping to continue to inspire, Ant Utama, releases Biding My Time on November 11th, 2022, via all digital outlets, with the Video Clip to follow on November 18th.
