The New Zealand Fringe Festival is set to launch its programme for the 2009 festival on Thursday January 15 from 6pm to 8pm.
The venue is Bar 22, Level 2, Lion Nathan, 4 Taranaki Street, Wellington.
With 108 confirmed participants spanning theatre, comedy, music, dance and visual arts – and a barrel-load in between, this year's Fringe Festival is the biggest in years.
The launch event is a highlight of Wellington's entertainment calendar as New Zealand's creative community dons costume and war paint to celebrate the impending festival.
Dignitaries and politicians will be on hand to join the fun, with a Crown Minister and Wellington mayor Kerry Prendergast expected to address the crowd. Although in keeping with the post-2008 election hangover, we offer little chance of baby-kissing pictures.
Invitations to media were distributed prior to Christmas, with RSVPs expected by 5pm Monday January 12. If you did not receive the invitation but would like to come, please contact Fringe 09 publicist Phil Reed at [email protected] as soon as possible to arrange entry.
Media packs containing press releases, images and goodie-bag goodness will be provided, as well as the free booze. We are, after all, holding the launch in a brewery's own bar.
Also of note is the launch of an exciting artistic competition in conjunction with Becks Beer. More to be revealed at the launch.
The New Zealand Fringe Festival 2009 commences on February 6 2009 and concludes March 1. Visit www.fringe.co.nz for more information and further announcements about the Fringe 09 line up.
