The RVMES are a fiercely independent and alternative band known for a high energy live show, strong dedication to their industry, and a love for weaving a number of genres throughout their songs. Always happily pushing the boundaries of who they are, The RVMES have created a unique sound and performance style that is truly their own.
Simple Things is an album of songs touching on relatable themes like fading childhood friendships, struggles of love, self-assurance around your passions, and what we all deserve in life. It also tackles more heavy hitting topics than their last, framing a wider social commentary to shine a light on the simple things in life that should be easy for all to access, like a fair wage, education, affordable health and mental health care services. This is strongly expressed in the first lyrics of the album, as they declare:
“We never ask for much, we never ask for much, things do not just fall into our lap.
Give me an honest break, give me a fuckin’ steak, then I guess I might just be ok…
All we need is just the simple things”
The RVMES pride themselves on being a self-sufficient band, funding all their recordings and taking on the producing and mixing duties. Simple Things was written over the last year, and recorded in former lead guitarist Miro Gibsons’ home studio with the final product being mastered by Luke Finlay at Primal Mastering.
Says the band: “There’s no better feeling than writing music and releasing it to the world. We were so lucky to have a home studio at our previous guitarist Miro’s place, but when he decided to head overseas, we wanted to create one final project which included him and used the song ideas were already working on.”
Two singles have been released off the new album to date, the cracking radio-friendly summer track What’s Troublin’ You, and the 2:19 minutes of punk-rock inspired title track Simple Things.
The RVMES - Edwin Judd (vocals, rhythm guitar), Logan Fox (Drums), Ronaldo Lima (bass, percussion) and Richard Moore (lead guitar) - are also hitting the roads of Aotearoa this summer, with a string of dates through December to February, to celebrate the release of Simple Things with their newest member on lead guitar Richard Moore.
Kicking off on the 10th of December at Anthology Lounge, Auckland they have secured fantastic support for their shows from a range of talented artists across Aotearoa including DJ BAX, Odds & Ends, Makeshift Parachutes, Camila Lenhart, Kriston Batistić (Krispy & The Pooch), Devon Welch and Retro Valley.
More shows follow over summer, with additional shows planned for announcement soon. Keep an eye out on The RVMES social channels to stay up to date, and make sure you round up your best mates and catch them performing live!
