23 is the current year we are in and also part of the area code for where Adam is from. The number 23 is scattered in the durations of the track as well. With that information you could assume that it what this EP is about but that is not the case. Around lockdowns, family and life in general, these tracks stem from loneliness and Adam having “ruined his social confidence”.
This EP has that same raw honest delivery to it which Adam is known for but the production has some experimentation to it which can feel refreshing but also unsurprising as Adam continues to level up on what he does. The recordings throughout some of the tracks connect the listener and bring them into the album more and his whanau, with moments from his son Tai and mentions of Anna (his partner) and Xena (his dog). It feels both personal for Adam and the listener as you can relate to so many of the feelings he touches on.
Adam wanted to release this EP as he works towards his next album which may also be his last as he considers stepping away.
Adam Tukiri is a rapper and producer from South Auckland, who created quite a name for himself under his previous moniker Dharmarat. There is just as much range in his discography as he has projects under his belt, having released about 22 projects as Dharmarat, if you include his work with his group Valleyside Boys.
Adam Tukiri is letting it speak for itself as he grows and steps further in to the role of being a dad.
