SOLE Music Academy are proud to release their 2023 Songwriting Competition. SOLE are calling all South Island songwriters to submit their song for the chance to win a $750+ prize pack.
The competition is open to two age brackets – Adults 18+ and 17 and Under's. The winning songwriter in both these age brackets will walk away with a 1 hr Artist Development Consultation worth $100, a $500 Music Voucher to be used at SOLE Music Academy, a SOLE T-Shirt & Cap, and a $150 Music Works voucher, courtesy of SOLE Music Academy and Music Works Christchurch .
Runners-up win a $250 Music Voucher to be used at SOLE Music Academy and a SOLE T-Shirt Or Cap.
Get your song in front of a judging panel composed of influential artists and industry professionals – Multi-Platinum Award winning Artist, Sacha Vee, Multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer & artist Goodwill and previous lead singer of Nomad, and singer songwriter Mousey.

Winners gain the opportunity to take the next step in their music career with an Artist Development Consultation at SOLE Music Academy. SOLE’s main mission is to help ‘bridge the gap’ into the industry by helping people turn their talent into a business. SOLE offers a Development Programme which is specifically designed for skilled Singers, Songwriters, Producers & Bands who want to develop their own musical identity, image, sound, and business, create a body of original work and take their performance, skills, and knowledge to a professional level.
A $500 SOLE Music Academy voucher will give winners the opportunity to attend a term of private sessions at SOLE Music Academy, these include Singing, Producing, Songwriting, Guitar, Keys or Artist Development. Accompany this with a $150 Music Works voucher and the winners will be on track to level up their music career!
Previous winners Jaz Paterson and KEI have gone on to excel in their music careers since entering in 2020. Jaz went on to complete SOLE’s Artist Release Programme and received over 35k from NZ On Air Funding and has been releasing original music ever since. KEI went onto be in the top 20 for NZ idol and has since completed SOLE’s Artist Development Programme. She has also been selected for their Artist Release Programme and will be releasing her music this year under SOLE’s guidance.
Songs will be judged on content: i.e., lyrics, melody, musical cohesiveness, and structure. Submissions must be entered via a private Soundcloud link with the lyrics written in the description section. The song entered doesn’t need to be fully produced but must sound audible. Music and lyrics of all entries must be original and all songs entered must not be commercially released prior to judging. There is a limit of 1 song per entrant.
Entries close Friday 21st April. Winners will be announced on 5th May.
