New Zealand indie rock band Valkyrie have shared their soundtrack to a quintessential Aotearoa summer BBQ, the single, I’ll Be There.

A crunchy electric guitar with a laid back reggae feel sets the scene for good vibes and a summer singalong with mates; exactly how Valkyrie intended the song to be. “It’s the kinda track where you’d grab the ones you love, play it at a BBQ maybe or driving to the beach… or maybe driving with no destination! As long as the vibes are good between you and who you’re with, I’ll Be There will vibe with you too.”

“I’ll Be There is simply about being there for the ones you love,” explains lead vocalist Omer. “Your Mrs, your man, your family, your mates! It’s letting them know that whenever they blemin’ need you, you’ll be there! This is how we are in Valkyrie.”

Today’s single features on the band’s recently released album Joyride; a body of work which encapsulates that hot summer feeling; driving with the top town, singing at the top of your lungs to your favourite songs with your best mates, and together absorbing the sound of freedom. The carefree vibe of I’ll Be There is the perfect summary of Joyride.

Valkyrie is a four-piece band formed in Auckland, New Zealand. Valkyrie is fronted by powerhouse lead singer Omer Gilroy (Nga Puhi, Ngai tahu) and electrifying guitarist Rebel Reid (Nga Puhi). On percussion is the talented Jesse Pakipaki, and on bass is the melodic Joshua Dolan (Tainui). Valkyrie crafts a wide range of escapist and original songs written about real life experiences. On stage they explode with raw energy, precision and audience participation.

Achievements include a nationwide tour, favorites at Splore Festival (3x), Soundsplash festival and opening for New Zealand's biggest band Six60 (2021). Valkyrie’s debut EP went straight to the top of the NZ heatseekers chart. Their single Good Thing has shot to over 2000 playlists.
