Valere, who is songwriter and producer Shana Graham, describes the single as an “ode to long distance AND going the distance” and is a sparkly take on 2000’s pop-rock, complete with boom bap drums, DJ Foley and strings. “It’s a fun song about longevity in a relationship, like a song perpetually stuck in your head,” says Graham, who, with her film-maker husband also shot the song’s picturesque music video at her auntie’s home in Cebu, Philippines. “We wanted to do a ‘long-distance’ phone call video and showcase the beauty and vibrancy of where I grew up; she had an old phone, and we thought, why not do it here?”
Co-produced by Luigi Balazo (The Sundown, Sepia Times) and mixed/mastered by Michael Collier (Leone), Stuck In My Head releases everywhere on 16th March.
Valere is Ōtautahi based songwriter and producer Shana Graham whose intricate rhythms, rich melodies and new wave sounds mesh into music that’s ‘kinetic, yet warmly intimate’ (NZ Musician Magazine). An APRA Songhubs Sphere alum and International Songwriting Competition semi-finalist, Valere’s debut album colours garnered spots on ZM, BaseFM and various Spotify playlists including The Local List NZ. A recent signee to Enemy Love Records, Valere is gearing up to release her fourth project in 2023.
