Christone ‘Kingfish’ Ingram Announces Jimi Kara & The Bluesos To Open His Only NZ Concert

17 March 2023 - 0 Comments

Blues prodigy Christone ‘Kingfish’ Ingram is set to perform his debut show at Auckland’s Powerstation on Friday 14th April as part of Bluesfest Touring’s NZ sideshow season. Joining him is lauded local bluesman, Jimi Kara & The Bluesos.

Guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Christone ‘Kingfish’ Ingram, has quickly become the defining blues voice of his generation. 2022 was a phenomenal year for the 24 year-old torch-bearing blues wunderkind, scooping the Jazz FM Awards Blues Artist Of The Year, after previously winning the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album for his acclaimed 2021 sophomore effort, 662.

The accolades and awards have kept coming thick and fast since the release of Kingfish, his Grammy-nominated 2019 Alligator Records debut, as people globally get turned onto his formidable musical virtuosity. He has now claimed a total of five Blues Foundation BMA’s since then.

In 2022, fresh off his Grammy win, Kingfish took home Contemporary Blues Male Artist for the third consecutive year, and he was also awarded Contemporary Blues Album for the second time since 2020.

“Christone ‘Kingfish’ Ingram is the future of the blues, singing and playing with edge, verve, and vitality. Stinging guitar…sweet and melodic vocals.” - Guitar World

Renowned local rock and blues guitarist Jimi Kara has garnered an enviable reputation for his masterful musicianship over his many years of playing. Without a doubt, Jimi is one of New Zealand’s most in-demand and premiere lead guitarists - whether touring and performing with his band, as a guitar-slinger for hire, or solo.

Described as “one of the most prolific guitarists I’ve ever seen” by Joe Satriani, Jimi’s exceptional talent has been widely recognised well beyond our shores, securing him an esteemed position amongst his peers and music fans alike.

For this show with ‘Kingfish’, Jimi will be letting fly with his own brand of blues stemmed from tradition, and evolved via many blues influences from Blind Blake and Robert Johnson all the way to Hendrix and many modern contemporaries.

On having this opportunity to open for Christone ‘Kingfish’ Ingram, Jimi Kara says, “I am absolutely honoured to be on the same bill as ‘Kingfish’, and will do my best to do the show justice.”

“Ingram represents the next generation of great American blues artists.” - PBS Newshour

Bluesfest Touring feels privileged to introduce ‘Kingfish’ to a New Zealand audience. For one night only, blues aficionados are set for an absolutely blazing night of exemplary blues musicianship.
