One of the most iconic and influential bands in New Zealand music history, Dragon have announced ‘Dragon 50’ a 50th anniversary show at The Powerstation in Auckland on Friday 25 August.
Formed in Auckland in 1973, Dragon quickly established themselves as one of the most exciting and dynamic live acts in the country. Playing their first ever gig at The Great Ngāruawāhia Music Festival in January 1973, alongside Black Sabbath,
Fairpoint Convention and Split Enz, they endured numerous line-up changes over the following years each time refining their sound to become the Dragon we know today.
With hits such as April Sun in Cuba, Rain, and
Are You Old Enough, the band became a household name in New Zealand and beyond relentlessly touring both sides of the Tasman to become one of the hardest working bands out.
Supporting Dragon are Hello Sailor.
Cut from the same cloth as Dragon, Hello Sailor were and still are a phenomenal live band. Blue Lady, Gutter Black, Lyin’ In The Sand, and more, Hello Sailor rocked the country one pub at a time. With Jimmy Taylor, Paul
Woolright and original members Harry Lyon and Rick Ball at the helm, Hello Sailor are the perfect pairing for what will be a night of nostalgia at The Powerstation this August.
Dragon 50 is not only a celebration of the band’s existence,
but also a celebration of your relationship with Dragon songs. Each song is a trip down memory lane for young and old. Whether you were right there during the early days singing away while watching the band live at the local pub, or you became familiar
with the songs by listening to your parents' record collection, these songs have stood the test of time. Witnessing a Dragon show with the band in their current form triggers a powerful emotional response and come Fri 25 August, Auckland’s Powerstation
will be in full flight, punters shoulder to shoulder belting out the classics as one.
Songs from the Young Years like Rock n Roll Ponsonby and Education. Songs from the Glory Years like Sunshine, This Time,
Get That Jive, Still In Love, April Sun and Are You Old Enough. Songs from the mid-period 80's come back like Rain, Speak No Evil and Dreams of Ordinary Men. Songs
from the Phoenix Years like Don’t I look like Jim, Roses, Babylon, and many more. Dragon 50. Live and loud. Tickets on sale Monday 8 May at noon from ticketmaster.co.nz
