To celebrate the release of their debut album Old Dreams, Anxiety Club (Kev Fitzsimons and Clint Meech) got together with some friends to film an intimate performance of some of their favourite songs from the album. Joining them for the session was Andrew Bain (Fur Patrol), Kim Bonnington (You, Me, Everybody) and Nigel Mitchell (Orangefarm).
Convening at Wellington/Pōneke bar and venue Bedlam & Squalor with photographer and video-maker Nick George, they captured three songs as the sun set over the city. Eschewing the dense arrangements of the record for a more stripped-back approach, the band brought a fresh perspective and breathed new life into the tunes.
With Kev currently travelling in Europe, this beautifully-filmed video will be the only way to see Anxiety Club perform these songs – at least for the next little while.
The Bedlam Sessions premieres Saturday 13 May on YouTube and band’s Facebook page.
Anxiety Club debuted in 2017 with anthemic single Be Still. Since then they have enjoyed critical success with the Black Heart and Francine EPs, toured the country, had a cult Student Radio hit with Ginger in the Summer, graced summer festival stages (incl. Coastella, Festival of Lights) and recorded a number of live-to-airs for Radio NZ. Debut album Old Dreams was released in September 2022 and is available to stream everywhere.
