Hamilton rock band Haast Hunter deliver strong message in new single 'Sunshine'

Emerging Kirikiriroa Hamilton rock band Haast Hunter have today delivered their smashing new single Sunshine.

Listen to Sunshine HERE

Sunshine is an awesomely hard-rock, heartfelt and dramatic track that speaks to an important topic sure to resonate with many. “Sunshine is a story of someone enduring the pain and battle of depression, and coming through the other side,” says singer and guitarist James Harper. ”I have a strong connection with and am passionate about mental health, so a lot of our songs are tied in with subject matter. I love to help people and be there for my friends and family. If I can help others through music, well, that’s the dream.”

Sunshine was recorded at Auckland’s Lab Studios by award-winning engineer Olly Harmerand the band says it’s a great representation of what's been done and what’s to come. “If you put our 3 latest releases and our next 3 releases in a blender, out would pop sunshine from the mix!”

Haast Hunter is made up of James Harper (vocals/guitar), Richard Oranje (drums) and Chris Gudsell (bass) and recently released their first three singles for NZ Music Month 2023 - (Stall) Bobby, Dissonance and Barbara Ave. The band formed 7 years ago when Richard posted an online classified ad looking for band members. James saw the ad and jumped at the chance, starting out as just the guitarist “At the time I was going through some heavy personal issues and music was my main catharsis. The opportunity to join a band could not have come at a better time,” says James. Throughout the years bass players and vocalists would come and go, which is what led James to take up the mantle as frontman/ vocalist whilst still carrying out the guitar and songwriting duties. Staying true to their roots, bass player Chris was found through a classified ad in July 2022. And the rest, as the band says, is history. With an exciting debut album in the works, Haast Hunter are definitely ones to watch!
