A popular Queenstown venue is getting into the swing of spring this month with sensational cabaret dining evenings and themed overnight packages to celebrate the town’s annual jazz festival.
Crowne Plaza Queenstown is a major supporter of the ASB Queenstown JazzFest which runs from 17 to 26 October and this year hosts one of the festival’s new signature events – a “This is Your Life” Tribute Night dedicated to celebrating the talent and achievements of local musicians.
This year the spotlight will be on much-loved Queenstown musician Mark Wilson. The blind keyboard player sings and performs in inimitable style for a number of local bands, has been an inspiration for young musicians and a mentor to many.
Ex-New Yorker and well known local singer Margaret O’Hanlon brings together some of the region’s best musicians to acknowledge Mark’s enormous contribution to the town’s music scene on Saturday 17 October. The one-night only show promises fun, laughs and fantastic music and features performances and stories from a variety of Mark’s friends and previous collaborators.
Crowne Plaza’s threesixty restaurant and bar will also host dinner cabarets throughout the jazz festival. With no cover charge, guests are invited to listen over drinks in the bar or soak up the sounds, take in the views and enjoy a mouth-watering à la carte menu washed down with a selection of Amisfield wines.
Top dinner cabaret acts include Di Bird who is an icon of the Aussie jazz scene, New Zealand’s foremost jazz drummer Frank Gibson and his band, Nigel Gavin of Nairobi Trio fame, afro-Cuban Latin jazz band Descarga Hunter, the Michael Story Trio from Australia, local vocalist Jessie Coutts, and the Harvey Maguire Jazz Group led by Harvey Maguire, one of the original founders of the jazz festival.
Crowne Plaza Queenstown Business Development Manager Julie Jolley says JazzFest provides a great opportunity for local businesses to offer visitors a truly unique Queenstown experience.
“We’ve worked very closely with the festival organisers to put on a brilliant and varied line-up of live music every evening. Jazzfest always means fine music so we’re adding fine food and wine to the mix and creating a chic jazz club atmosphere to make things really swing.
“For people wanting to make a night of it we’re also running a ‘Spring Fling’ package which includes accommodation, à la carte cabaret dinner, buffet breakfast and a late check-out. There’s also a ‘Cellar-bration’ package which throws in two bottles of wine and complimentary parking for guests who prefer to make their own dinner plans.”
Reservations are essential to attend Crowne Plaza’s dinner cabarets. For more details visit www.crowneplazaqueenstown.co.nz or call 03 442 5360.
