The Mutton Birds main-man, Arts Laureate, international face of Aotearoa songcraft and more recently first-time New Zealand Album Chart topper with his latest album Bright November Morning, Don McGlashan is now set to embark on the now 22-date tour of Aotearoa across August, September & October.
Don elaborates “Evidently a lot of the Take It To The Bridge tour is sold out, which is really exciting, so we’re adding a couple more: a second show in Whangarei, and a new one in Raglan."
OneOneSix, Whangarei - Wednesday August 30
The Yard, Raglan - Thursday September 7
"We kick off in a couple of weeks, and I’m so looking forward to seeing all my favourite parts of the country again. Also, astonishingly, our merchandise department and touring arm are meshing perfectly, like the cogs and springs of a vast cuckoo clock, so we’ll have available a fine new “Bridges & Culverts of Aotearoa” teatowel, designed by the wonderful Anns Taylor; plus a special re-issue of Bright November Morning in what I’m told is “translucent red vinyl”. I’ve never released anything in “translucent red vinyl” before. It could be a career outlier, or it could be the start of something. Either way, you have to have one."
The Take It To The Bridge Tour will showcase McGlashan's extensive songbook in hand-picked intimate venues throughout the country.
Don will be accompanied on tour by Anita Clark on violin, keys & backing vocals. Anita, as Motte, will also open for Don at all shows.
Don McGlashan’s Take It To The Bridge Tour will transport him to places he’s never played before, including Tairua and Glenorchy. It’ll transport you too. Don’t miss it.

Don’s latest album, Bright November Morning quickly sold out completely after its 2022 release. A fancy vinyl reissue in translucent red and cassette is about to land in stores Friday, August 25th and best not to dilly dally this time round. A limited quantity will be available at shows.
As McGlashan’s fourth solo album and first #1 record, Bright November Morning is an essential addition to his remarkable output. It has all the glittering McGlashan touches in place: from the detail-perfect narratives of local life (the neighbours looking in when we take the curtains down, swimming and seeing Russian container ships on the horizon) to the strummy melodicism with detours into something noisier, and on to those welcome and welcoming choruses. The album was recorded in Lyttelton, Auckland and Vancouver, and is full of inspired playing from Shayne P Carter (Straitjacket Fits, Dimmer), Chris O’Connor (SJD, The Phoenix Foundation) and James Duncan (SJD, Dimmer).
