Former Midnight Youth lead vocalist and songwriter Jeremy Redmore possesses one of the most recognised voices in New Zealand music, while Levi Patel is a rising star in the world of modern classical and ambient music, composing and producing as an artist, for film, and for other artists.
Written and recorded in a variety of ways over the course of three years - in-person and remote, in bedrooms, studios, cities and wilderness - the Migrations EP is a project of contrasts between sonic worlds, beginnings and endings, intimacy and distance.
The project begins September 13th with lead single Worlds Apart, a song that perfectly captures the sonic collaboration between this unlikely pairing. What emerges from two artists working well outside their comfort zones is a sound that evokes comparison to the likes of Thom Yorke, Julianna Barwick and Sigur Rós.
“There are places this project took my voice to that it had never been before and that, combined with purposefully-challenging songwriting methods, has produced a unique cluster of songs I am so happy to share with the world,” Redmore says.
Worlds Apart will be followed by two further releases over the course of five weeks, culminating in the finished EP, out October 11.
