Christchurch – Pulzar FM celebrated its 10th birthday, Sunday 25th October with 400 listeners.
Founded by two Canterbury entrepreneurs, Pulzar FM began life in 1999 as a low power dance music radio station broadcasting in the inner city of Christchurch. On May 22nd 2008, Pulzar FM obtained the first frequency auctioned in the Christchurch area since 1991.
The station gave away over 200 double passes to listeners and advertisers over the proceeding two week period, supplying the opportunity to enjoy some of Christchurch’s’ best DJ talent on a lovely warm Sunday afternoon at a mystery location, revealed to be the Tai Tapu Hotel hours before the event.
Universally praised as a great day out in the sun, Pulzar FM hope to host more free parties in the future, giving its listeners and fans the opportunity to gain more from their listening experience. “Pulzar FM has always believed in encouraging people to live life to the full and rinse every ounce of enjoyment out of it you can. This event certainly seems to have delivered that in spades. Great music, a top day and a hugely well received experience all round, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate 10 years of providing the best music mix in Canterbury!” says station manager Andy Poulsen.
In the October (T2 2009) Radio Ratings, Pulzar FM was included in the Other category, which jumped up 10.2% to 14.2% (over the previous T1 2009 period) in their target 18-34 year audience. This rating implies that the station currently has around 25,000 regular listeners per week, a great result in their first rating period since coming to market on a full power frequency (105.7fm) in mid April. Pulzar FM seems to be doing big things quickly and is the Christchurch station to watch.
